 Lohri

Passing of Winter Solstice

Lohri is the harvest festival celebrated in northern India with great enthusiasm and joy. The festival marks the end of winter and the onset of the spring season. The people and children dress in new attire on this day. The celebration starts by lighting a bonfire which is in tradition from ancient times. People enjoy the festivity by dancing and singing around the fire. They also eat Jaggery, Gachak, peanuts, til laddu, etc while dancing. The elder members of the families give blessings and gifts to the younger ones. People worship the Sun, fire, and earth to seek blessing and thank for a good harvest.
