Earth - Our Blue Planet
Earth - Our Blue Planet
1. Size
Diameter: Approximately 12,742 km (7,918 miles)
Surface Area: Around 510.1 million km² (196.9 million square miles)
Volume: About 1 trillion cubic kilometres (260 billion cubic miles)
2. Composition
Core: Made of iron and nickel, solid inner core and a liquid outer core.
Mantle: Composed of silicate rocks rich in magnesium and iron.
Crust: A thin outer layer comprising various minerals, predominantly oxygen, silicon, aluminium, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium.
3. Atmospheric Condition
Composition: Primarily nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%), with trace amounts of argon, carbon dioxide, and other gases.
Weather: Experiences various weather conditions, including rain, snow, storms, and sunlight. The atmosphere plays a critical role in regulating temperature and supporting life.
4. Number of Moons
Moons: Earth has one natural satellite, the Moon. It is the fifth largest moon in the Solar System and is about 1/6th the size of Earth.
5. Additional Information
Water Presence: Approximately 71% of Earth’s surface is covered with water, primarily in the form of oceans, seas, rivers, and lakes.
Life: Earth is the only known planet to support life, with a diverse range of ecosystems and species.
Magnetic Field: Earth has a magnetic field generated by the motion of molten iron in its outer core, which protects the planet from solar radiation.
